Last film observation

All the pre production and production is on the links written in the essay. The final film is not ready yet because 3D clo doesnt run well with UNREAL software. I am uploading the film “finished” but without post production and title and credits because I havent seen the film yet. I have seen just low res projections so its gonna be a surprise for both of us.

I am sharing some pics of the last update. Its been very difficult to do this to be completely honest and the lack of motivation due to covid and being away from home for more than a year for sure has impacted this project. BUT, I am very happy I did it regardless the results.

we have been working on this project since august and we need like one more month to be completely honest. We have been having meetings since August 3 to 2 times per week during this last 5 months. Ive been online hours with them changing things in unreal or fixing stuff.

Looking at the whole process from day one that I draw those illustrations I really cant believe we are here. The owner of the studio always tells me “who thought of this crazy idea, its like you are high in this film” I guess its from a peruvian point of view.

No one really thinks that in a small country in south america we can do things like this. So yes, I am very proud of the whole team because we did it.

Also vicky:
The latest music video of SIA is here made in Peru and directed by a guy from L.A. and no one believes it but its true šŸ˜€ (thats the studio I am gonna be working with)

Production Design of the Film

Logistic of the Film

The Animation film at the end was decided to be film all in 3D. The budget of the film wasnt big and I had to make choices with whom to work with. I contact a producer friend from back home and ask her for animation studios in Peru. The possibility of doing the film in London was impossible because it was 5 times more expensive for everything than in Peru. After a week I talked with APUS STUDIO. The owner ( another friend of mine) Gabo was really into the project and he said he was gonna help me out.

They explain me every single thing about animation. Shading, Animating, Texturizing, Simulation and more. They were really helpful and I loved the work of them so we started right away.

We have a time frame as well. Every single thing was added into the time frame.

Colour research

Being the director and the production designer is a thing that I really like. I have more control of the visuals and of the actions in the film, but it is also a lot of work. Ill share some first ideas of the colours I wanted to use in the film and then how that was my starting point to source films that have that palette.

I was looking for nature colors that remind me home. Like sunsets in the sea, the colors of the country side, the fog of the capital city and so on. Also I really want it to have a little bit of magic and surrealism thats why some parts of the film have this fantastic feeling in the colour as well.

After this research I started to understand what I wanted and did some slides for each part of the film.

For example in this slide we can see how the colours are now used in this shot. Now its easier to stablished the locations and the colors of it. For me it is important to have references of places and colors so the art direction can be more accurate when the 3D designers are doing all the film.
